I spied this piece at World Market and couldn't help but think about recreating it on my own. I mean, it would take a little patience to measure and sketch out all the circles, but after that, the sky's the limit. You could create a textural piece by applying varying thicknesses of paint to different sections, or create a mixed media by decoupaging fabric and/or paper pieces into other sections. It could be made to work for any color scheme or style. The original is a little eclectic because it's colorful, random and unfinished, but this basic pattern could take on a very polished and modern look with glossy solid paints in a thoughtful pattern, or a very patch-work quilt look (great for a nursery!) with some patterned paper, and best of all, it could totally be done on the cheap since you don't even have to invest in a canvas, you could do this on a smaller scale on a piece of card stock, and everything else could be scrounged up around even the least-crafty of homesteads! You could use anything to fill in the sections from map colors to left over wall paint, scrap paper, like newspaper, magazine or even old maps or wrapping paper. I'm definitely going to give this a try....probably start small, and maybe work my way up to the full canvas size.
What about you guys? Are there any DIY art ideas you've come up with or been itching to try?
